JOB DESCRIPTION 

Surthrive is a marketing consultancy on a mission to accelerate economic development through entrepreneurship and innovation. We partner with local economic development agencies and entrepreneurial support organizations to provide technical assistance services to their community of small businesses. As a trusted small business community partner, we are looking to grow our team of passionate changemakers who believe entrepreneurship and innovation are the best tools to uplift communities around the nation. 

As a Digital Marketing Consultant you will be responsible for developing and maintaining close relationships with small business owners to assist them developing and executing their digital marketing strategies. You will leverage a combination of consulting insights from both your personal experience and Surthrive’s proven-playbook to provide masterful marketing advice that empowers business owners to achieve results.

A successful candidate should have the business acumen to assess core problems a business is struggling with, specifically, as it relates to digital marketing, identify goals and develop creative solutions / strategies to meet and exceed those goals. 

The Digital Marketing Consultant will serve as the direct point of contact for Surthrive ensuring each business owner receives personalized support and walks away satisfied. This role is responsible for managing client communication, analyzing data to make data-driven suggestions, and documenting interactions and results. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Establish and manage a consistent meeting cadence with Surthrive’s small business clients, serving as a trusted representative who delivers results-driven conversations  with grace, patience, and empathy.
  • Develop and implement tailored digital marketing strategies—including SEO, email campaigns, lead generation funnels, CRM optimization, paid ads, and light website updates.
  • Set up and optimize tools for social media, e-commerce platforms, CRM systems, and automation (email, SMS, AI).
  • Bridge the gap between digital marketing and overall business operations to drive measurable growth for small business owners.
  • Conduct data-driven digital audits to evaluate business performance.
  • Support 5–10 clients at a time with strategy, execution, and ongoing performance improvements.
  • Document client interactions and results in Surthrive’s CRM, providing clear progress reports, action items, and next steps.
  • Collaborate with Surthrive consultants to ensure seamless, aligned service delivery.
  • Deliver clear, research-backed action plans with insights and next steps at the end of each client engagement.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience: 2–3+ years of digital marketing leadership, strategy, or operations experience, with 1–3+ years advising and/or running campaigns for entrepreneurs and small business owners (e-commerce brands or brick and mortar businesses preferred).
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling copy.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using and implementing marketing automation tools, including CRMs, email and SMS platforms, e-commerce sites, and social media management systems.
  • Strategic Insight: Familiar with marketing strategy frameworks (customer personas, empathy maps, customer journey maps) and experienced in building lead generation and demand generation funnels.

  • Collaboration: Able to work closely with Surthrive’s team and attend mandatory internal meetings with consistency and reliability.

  • AI-driven marketing automation (chatbots, workflows, personalization tools).
  • Paid media buying across platforms (Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok, LinkedIn).
  • Advanced analytics and dashboard reporting (Google Analytics, Hotjar).
  • Graphic design and content creation (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Experience supporting underrepresented founders or mission-driven organizations.
